The West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Nutrition Services, housed within the Bureau for Public Health, is proud to announce the grand opening of the new Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) clinic located at 103 George Kostas Drive in Logan. This new facility marks a major milestone in the Department of Health’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality care to families across West Virginia.
“Establishing this new site significantly increases our capacity to serve women, infants, and children in the region, ensuring that essential health resources are conveniently available to those who need them most,” said Secretary of Health, Dr. Arvin Singh.
"The opening of the new Logan clinic is a testament to our dedication to the health and well-being of West Virginia families," added Ashley Puffenbarger, Director of the Office of Nutrition Services. "Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment where participants can easily access the nutritional support and health services necessary to give their children the healthiest start possible.”
The Logan WIC clinic serves as an adjunct to healthcare, focusing on the critical link between good nutrition and improved health outcomes for the maternal and child population. The services provided at the new location include:
- Healthy Nutrition Services: Access to supplemental foods and nutritional guidance for infants, children, and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women.
- Nutrition Education: Comprehensive education services to empower families with the knowledge to make healthy, informed dietary choices.
- Breastfeeding Support: Dedicated resources and professional support, including Breastfeeding Peer Counseling, to promote breastfeeding as the optimal feeding method for newborns.
- Referrals: Coordination with community partners to ensure families are connected to broader health and social services.
The location’s grand opening will be held on Wednesday, August 12, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and tour the new facility, learn more about WIC, and meet the staff dedicated to supporting the health of the local community.
