Non Emergency Medical Transport Contract Awarded

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources Deputy Secretary for Public Insurance and Strategic Planning Jeremiah Samples today announced the award of the state’s Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) contract to Medical Transportation Management (MTM).

“The NEMT broker will provide a central point of management of travel instead of the current system through each DHHR county office,” Samples said. “The goal is better coordination of these services to our Medicaid recipients, thus improving quality.”

The Public Works Report, Creating a Sustainable, Strategic Health Care System in West Virginia, recommended DHHR’s Bureau for Medical Services establish a NEMT broker system.

MTM will begin establishing services in West Virginia on June 1, 2014 with full broker services being in the fall of 2014. This contract was awarded following a bidding process conducted under the guidelines of the West Virginia Purchasing Division.

MTM will be responsible for full administration of the program including customer services, provider enrollment, verification of safety requirements, utilization review, and monitoring for fraud and abuse. Under the new contract, current NEMT providers, including friends and family, may contract with the broker to continue to provide services.
